When I was young and working, I had health insurance, but never used it. When I was 22, I was hired on as a contract worker at Timken Research and was not provided with health insurance. Back then, my choices were "Cobra" and "Golden Rule". I was quoted two prices at Golden Rule. Men's health care was around $70 per month, and women's health care was up to $300. I asked about the reason for the difference, and they told me it was because women had more complicated health issues. I asked to get the men's rate with the understanding that they would not cover any health care related to "Lady issues". They agreed.
I did not understand at that time what Planned Parenthood was, so I went without annual checkups. Had I known about the health services provided, I would have had my annual exams there. I did not learn about their services until much later in my 20's. I am lucky that my neglected reproductive health did not suffer due to my ignorance.
Planned Parenthood covers all females reproductive needs, regardless of socioeconomic status. I believe a female has a right to her privacy in the doctor's office and the right to govern her own reproductive life. It's important that all women have annual checkups for their reproductive health. It is important that they may do this in a safe, nonjudgmental space.
